  • Load the washing machine only 2/3 full on a gentle wash cycle
  • For best results, choose a low spin speed
  • Please be sure to close zips or Velcro fasteners
  • Pre-treat tough stains
  • Use a special detergent for functional textiles
  • Wash your functional jacket regularly to retain its breathability
  • Avoid using fabric softeners

How to wash properly

Essential for functional textiles: they should be washed regularly. Why? Regular washing cleans the membranes, in turn retaining their breathability. Did you know: the membranes need heat to function, i.e. the body’s water vapour can only be transported from the inside to the outside when the temperature in the jacket is higher than the ambient air. Please note: by washing functional textiles regularly, the finish can wear off and you will have to treat their outer layer, preferably with a PFC-free reproofer.

Please use special detergents for functional textiles and read the product label. Avoid using fabric softeners as they can react with the membrane layer and have an adverse impact on the water-permeability of the functional fabric. Do not use too much detergent and pre-treat tough stains.

Products have a certain colour brightness when new. Always wash your new garment inside out to ensure it looks splendid for longer.

The product label will tell you whether your Maier Sports product needs to be washed on a gentle cycle. The washing machine should only be loaded 2/3 full for a better washing result. A low spin cycle will also benefit your Maier Sports product. If specified on the care label, the fabrics can then be tumble dried at a low temperature. Second option: air dry. Tip: you can select a lower spin cycle. Hanging textiles while still slightly damp will result in fewer creases.

Please always make sure that all zips and Velcro fasteners are closed as it will benefit your washing machine and other textiles being washed. It will prevent them from getting caught in the washing machine and getting tangled up with the other garments.

Retreatment test: spray some drops of water onto the product. If they bead up, it shows that the water repelling effect is still active. If the water spreads out and is drawn into the fabric, then it's time to refresh the waterproof finish. Always retreat your garments after every 3 to 4 washes. A PFC-free reproofer is recommended.

Good and proper care is absolutely essential for membranes. The following generally applies: please ensure you observe the care label instructions. Unless otherwise specified, wash in the washing machine with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle up to 40 °C. Then nothing can go wrong.

Maier Sports functional pants can be machine washed at 30 °C or dry cleaned. While our fabrics have a long service life as regards, for example, the water repelling effect or stain resistance, pants must nevertheless be washed and looked after. The dirt-repellent Teflon finish can be refreshed with special Teflon sprays.

Wash our mTEX functional fabrics only at 30 °C, avoiding dry cleaning and bleach. Please also note that all mTEX garments have an industrial waterproof finish, which ensures the material cannot absorb water. However, this waterproof finish gets washed out over time. But no need to worry, your jacket is still waterproof as the membrane and taped seams take care of that. To refresh the water repelling effect, simply use a special reproofer and iron at a low setting without steam after drying.

The label instructs you to "wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle". However, dry cleaning is also possible. Avoid bleach because it can attack the colours as with normal fabrics. You should also avoid using your tumble dryer. You won't need it anyway because our blouses and shirts with the dryprotec label dry very quickly.

Fleece garments should also be washed at 30 °C on a gentle cycle. Shake the clothing briefly after it comes out of the machine to remove the need to iron. We recommend you avoid ironing altogether because even a low setting will flatten the fleece fibres and the fleece, causing them to lose their cuddly, insulating character until the next wash.

Washing at 30 °C on a gentle cycle or dry cleaning are recommended to ensure the softshell fabric looks and feels good for longer. Like fleeces, ironing can be avoided by shaking the garment briefly after washing. Since most softshells have a water-repellent finish, this also has to be refreshed from time to time.
